[Review] Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston
Bookish and the Beast, the third book in the Once Upon a Con series by Ashley Poston, is yet another fabulously geeky tribute to finding love while letting your nerdy flag fly.
In Bookish and the Beast - loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast, if you couldn't guess - Starfield's villainous star Vance Reigns finds himself stuck in the middle of nowhere, sentenced to a quiet timeout away from the Hollywood spotlight and paparazzi. But it's in the middle of nowhere that Vance meets Rosie, a girl who loves to read just as much as she loves avoiding attention at school. To Vance, Rosie is just an annoyance. To Rosie, Vance is a snotty Hollywood stuckup. But when they get to know each other, and realize they have more in common than they realized, will Rosie be able to see through Vance's fascade and break the spell before the last petal falls and Vance heads back to Hollywood?
Bookish and the Beast was a great continuation of the Once Upon a Con series. I loved Geekerella when I first read it, and I'm so glad Ashley Poston did a Beauty and the Beast-centric story. Poston's writing is easy to fall into and get lost in - I think it only took me about six hours to read through the book because I just couldn't put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen next to Rosie and Vance. And even though this book is the 3rd in the series, really anyone can pick it up without having read the first two; there's a few names from the previous books, and references to Starfield, the sci-fi movie the actors all star in, but the rest of Bookish and the Beast can easily be read as a standalone. Great as part of the series or read on it's own (though the first two books are also great so you should read those just because), Bookish and the Beast is a fantastic YA for fans of Beauty and the Beast, book nerds, or anyone who loves to fall for the villain.
