[Review] Fables & Other Lies by Claire Contreras

When Penelope is called back to Pan Island after her father's death, she can't ignore the talk of the Curse. Nor can she ignore the pull of River, son of her family's generations-long enemy. But when mysterious things start happening during Carnival, Penelope must decide what's true and what's just part of the fable.

A dark, gothic romance set in the Caribbean, Fables & Other Lies immediately pulled me into the story and kept me hooked to the very end. The mystery of the island's curse was well written, captivating, and exciting to see unravel. There was great chemistry between Penelope and River, and the dynamics between them and their families was interesting to see play out on the page. This was a great read, sure to draw in any fan of gothic romances and mysteries.
