[Review] The Ravens by Kass Morgan & Danielle Paige
These sorority girls are just a bunch of witches.
The girls in the Kappa Rho Nu sorority are a bunch of witches - seriously. Using the sorority as a cover for their coven, the girls, known as the Ravens, have it all: popularity, fabulous parties, and notoriety across campus. Everyone knows who the Ravens are. When freshman Vivi gets invited to pledge the Kappas, she sees it as a chance to start over, to be someone new. But when she learns the secrets of the sorority, Vivi realizes some of the most important answers are in her past, not her future. As the Kappa membership chair and Vivi's Big, Scarlett has a lot on her plate. But then weird things start happening at the Kappa House, and Scarlett can't ignore her past any longer. As a years-old mystery starts to unravel and the Kappa's coven is put to the test, it will be up to Kappas both new and old to protect the bonds of sisterhood and put evil to rest.
I really enjoyed The Ravens. Both Morgan and Paige did a fantastic job at creating a beautiful campus setting while incorporating both regular campus drama with the not-so-regular witch drama. I stayed independent in college, so I was initially weary of reading a book about sorority life, but the focus was really on the coven and magic, and less about house meetings and fundraisers. Because of the element of fantasy involved, I really had no idea who the villain of the story was until the big reveal. The authors did a great job at leading the reader on this journey without giving too much away along the way. I loved the diversity within the cast of characters - there was no doubt, even from the beginning, that the Ravens welcomed all races and sexualities into their coven. If you're looking for a diverse, witch-positive, well-written read, The Ravens is a perfect read for you.
