[Review] Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce
Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce is a perfect little palette cleanser that is sweet, romantic, and fun to read.
When Ellie is made a laughing stock by her crush and the video goes viral, she does what any sane girl would do: run away from her embarrassment to spend a semester abroad in England with a small group from her school - all with the hopes of finding a hot British boyfriend to take her mind off her crush back home. Luckily for Ellie, it isn't long before she meets Will, who happens to be charming, handsome, and British. But all isn't as dreamy as Will's accent; Ellie quickly gets in over her head trying to balance her classes, her new friends, and her new boyfriend. And when Ellie starts spending more and more time with her classmate Dev? Ellie realizes that what she truly needed to be happy was right in front of her the entire time.
Hot British Boyfriend was a cute little teen romance that was definitely more entertainment than substance. Ellie was a typical teenager, making drastic decisions and running from her problems rather than face her classmates head on. We've all been embarrassed, but most of us don't flee to England as a temporary solution to our problems. The titular Will often came across as too good to be true, and was usually too self-absorbed to truly care for Ellie. And Ellie was hardly herself around Will; it seemed inevitable from the start that their relationship wouldn't last. I was relieved when Ellie finally saw the love that was right in front of her the whole time. The writing was light and fluffy, and Hot British Boyfriend was the perfect book to pick up after reading something with heavier topics. Escapism at its finest, and a good beach read.
