--------------------
A fantastic start to a new urban fantasy series, Fractured Souls is a sexy tale of angels and demons, with a bit of mystery and lots of action.
Cassius Black has a bit of a reputation. Different from the other Fallen, angels and demons that fell to Earth five hundred years ago, Cassius has been taking odd jobs and generally staying away from other Fallen. But when Cassius ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time, he finds himself working closely with the local Argonaut agents to stop a murder spree across San Francisco. Helping stop a murderer from stealing human souls is one thing - all in a day's work - but resisting the temptation that is Argonaut agent and fellow angel Morgan? That might just be Cassius’s greatest weakness. A true urban fantasy featuring an epic battle of good versus evil between magic-users, angels, and demons set on the streets of San Francisco, Fractured Souls is full of fantastic battles and a hot M/M romance that will have readers clamoring for Cassius and Morgan’s next adventure.
Fractured Souls drew me in right from the beginning. I love a good urban fantasy, and Salinger starts Fractured Souls off with action and keeps it running throughout the entire book. I absolutely loved the mix of gritty action and romance; Cassius and Morgan are such a dynamic couple yet complement each other so well. Salinger did an excellent job at world-building. Although the plot takes place in San Francisco, there’s a lot more to this world and Salinger seamlessly combines the real-life city with angels, demons, witches, warlocks, and so much more. There was just enough balance between the action of solving the murders and the romance between Morgan and Cassius to keep me turning the page. And while there is an overarching theme that will surely run throughout the series, Fractures Souls does not end on a cliffhanger and can safely be read before the next book comes out. The romance between Cassius and Morgan is explicit, so this book is definitely for fans of urban fantasy romance; if you prefer clean romances or no romance at all, Fractured Souls may not be for you. Salinger has created a wonderfully three dimensional world that weaves romance into magic and murder. This was a great book which will surely lead to a great series from Ava Marie Salinger.
