[ARC Review] Desire's Addiction by Mari Carr and Lila Dubois
Desire's Addiction was at times a high-octane read. Right from the start, Carr and Dubois give readers tense situations. I loved our introduction to Talya; she is a survivor through and through and we see that right away. Talya's story arc was well done; she went from frightened and desolate, to hopeful, to loved. I was so glad we got to see her come full circle.
Both Talya's men are also great characters. Milo is the overprotective one, always looking out for the people he loves. Henri is more reserved, especially at first, but he brings such care and devotion to the relationship. Together, Talya, Milo, and Henri are exactly what the others needed, and I thought Carr and Dubois did an excellent job at balancing all the characters out.
Overall, I thought the plot was entertaining, exciting, and well written. There was a lot of action on the page, and consistent character development throughout. Even with three main players on the page, there was never any confusion about who was speaking or who was doing what. I thought the spicier scenes were great, and felt they held meaning to both the characters and the plot.
While I recommend Talya, Milo, and Henri's story, I also recommend reading prior books in the Masters' Admiralty series to get a feeling for what exactly the secret society does and stands for; as much as the Masters' Admiralty is mentioned in this book, there is not a lot of history and backstory for the organization. Readers won't be lost if this is your introduction to the Masters' Admiralty, but reading prior books will definitely enhance the overall story.
A huge thank you to the authors and Social Butterfly PR for providing a review copy of Desire's Addiction.
