[ARC Review] Right Number, Wrong Girl by Emma Hart
When her event planner best friend is stuck out of the country, Sophie agrees to step in and help organize the Dowager Duchess of Devon's eightieth birthday party. The only problem? Sophie is the least organized person and she doesn't have the slightest idea how to plan a party. So with Camilla's reputation on the line, Sophie does what any girl would do: she enlists the help of the Duke of Devon's two sons: Hugo, who stands to inherit the dukedom one day, and his younger brother, Henry. While the brothers know just far out of her element Sophie really is, the rest of their aristocratic family has no idea. In order to pull off this party, Sophie has to rely heavily on Hugo and she despises every bickering moment that they are together. But this enemies-to-lovers story soon sees that bickering become something more heated. And as lost as Sophie feels at party planning, she sort of likes getting lost in Hugo's eyes - not that she'd ever admit that. With absolutely hilarious situations and inner dialogue, Right Number, Wrong Girl was a fantastic adventure from start to finish.
I loved the humor in Hart's Lady Love, so I was excited to see it back in full force in Right Number, Wrong Girl. Sophie absolutely cracked me up; the sarcasm and humor in her conversations as well as her inner dialogue was spot on and could have easily come straight out of any of the great British sitcoms. Sophie was deliciously in over her head for most of the novel, and maybe it's schadenfreude but I loved every little issue she encountered. She may have been way out of her element (at one point, Sophie even says she's more like a toddler than an actual adult), but I truly enjoyed watching her deal with every obstacle and grow from the experience.
We all knew that Sophie and Hugo were going to end up together to give us that happily ever after, and the journey there was certainly entertaining. From every challenge - from having to deal with his aristocratic family to just getting in and out of Hugo's tall pickup truck - Sophie goes in kicking and screaming and ends up admitting the feelings she's harboring for Hugo. But luckily for Sophie, the feelings aren't one-sided.
I think my favorite part of this novel is how out there yet realistic it is. Sophie couldn't turn down helping her friend, but almost instantly regretted it. How many of us have volunteered for something only to wish we hadn't when the time came to actually do the thing we volunteered for? Fortunately for Sophie, her regrets worked out for the best in the end.
Full of humor (especially from Sophie and the almost-octogenarian Dowager Duchess), steamy, and just the right amount of tension, Right Number, Wrong Girl is a laugh out loud romcom that will leave you glad you don't have a friend like Camilla.
A huge thank you to the author for providing a review copy of Right Number, Wrong Girl.
