[Review] Immortal Inheritance by L.A. McGinnis

Publisher's synopsis: Constantine Darke was the altar I wanted to sin on—my darkest desires made flesh—a beautiful predator I’d make mine, no matter how many scars I had to endure.

I’ve always been a survivor—death, violence, cruelty—I’ve seen it all, and I’m still here.

But nothing prepared me for Con, King of the Blackstone Vampire Clan. Nor for Robert Lockhart, who might be able to draw me out of the shadows, after nine long years in hell. Our history goes back a long time, five hundred years to be exact. Generations for me, a single lifetime for them.

As I’m drawn deeper into their savage world of blood feuds and death curses, I feel more alive than ever, despite the dangers. My enemies are no longer human. They’re faster than me, they’re stronger than me, and they have fangs.

But I have magic.

And that will be their downfall.

My thoughts: I honestly did not expect to fall so quickly for our three main characters. I hadn't read the original series this spin off was based on, and it definitely took a few chapters before I could fully understand this world Logan, Constantine, and Robert inhabit, but once I got into the world of the Blackstone Vampire Clan, I was fully hooked.

I really appreciated that we sort of meet Logan when she's already in the thick of it. Maybe that comes from backstory that I didn't get by skipping the Darkfell Vampire Clan books, but I loved feeling like I was dropped into the middle of the action. I got a really good first impression from Logan.

Logan's story was intriguing, made even more so by her leading men, er, vampires. Con and Rob were opposites in their own right - one dark and powerful, the other calm and logical. Their hundreds of years of history came through in their mannerisms and interactions without McGinnis having to overly or specifically discuss their history together.

We do get multiple POV for this book, which I think was necessary to truly get Constantine's personality across to readers. Often coming across as cold or uncaring to Logan, Con had a passion and fire burning for those he loved. McGinnis gave us just enough of Con's POV to make me want to see him happy and settle with Robert and Logan, but not too much to ruin Con's stoic, outward appearance.

Overall, I enjoyed the writing and story that McGinnis gave us in Immortal Inheritance. There was a lot going on between Logan and her vampires, as well as between Logan, her previously hidden magic, and her past. I'm sure there were plenty of Darkfell Vampire Clan references that went over my head since I haven't read those stories yet, but readers new to McGinnis's vampires can definitely read the Blackstone Vampire Clan books without getting lost.

McGinnis gives spice, story, and a whole lot of intrigue and I can't wait to read what happens in the next book.
