[ARC Review] Meats & Memories by Duckie Mack

Publisher's synopsis:
Dash made bad decisions in the past, ones that he paid for behind bars. He’s left his old life behind, but the memories linger. He finds a passion in food and sells his smoked meats and sausages at the Heartcraft Market.

Evan loves his job as a sonographer, but sometimes the weight of his work wears on him. He surrounds himself with flowers and pretty things that remind him of the beauty in life.

Done with dating apps, Evan hopes to find someone in real life. When the intriguing tattooed man at the market catches his eye, could this be the “meat” cute the vegetarian was hoping for?

Dash is drawn to the crop top-wearing cutie that frequents his booth, but can Evan accept his past?

My thoughts: Dash and Evan's story was so cute. Sometimes, you just need a book with little to no drama and a satisfying happily-ever-after, and Meats & Memories checked all those boxes.

Readers met Dash in the first Heartcraft Market book, and I was glad that Duckie chose to focus on his story for the second book; Dash clearly had a story that needed to be told. I think my favorite part of Dash and Evan's story is the fact that, while their relationship is pretty trouble-free, their individual pasts are not. Both characters were able to grow alongside each other, and I enjoyed taking that journey with them. I loved how supportive they were to each other, especially when that support was pretty much instantaneous and came with no strings attached.

While the Heartcraft Market series is technically separate from Duckie's other series (and can thoroughly be enjoyed on its own), I loved all the little crossover references from the Love Bank series. Meats & Memories was low-angst and a fairly quick read, but Duckie packed quite a bit of character development into this story.

[Thank you to Duckie Mack for providing a review copy of Meats & Memories to her ARC team. All opinions are my own.]
