[Review] Filthy Rich Vampire by Geneva Lee

PUBLISHER'S SYNOPSIS:
Julian Rousseaux has a problem. He’s single, and for the world’s wealthiest vampires, the social season is about to begin. Julian would rather stake himself than participate in the marriage market. But as the eldest, eligible Rousseaux he’s expected to find a wife before the season ends—whether he likes it or not.

When cellist Thea literally stumbles into his life at a gala, he knows she's the last person he could ever fall in love with. She's too innocent, too kind, and way too human. But now that she knows about his world, she's also a walking target. She needs protection. He needs a fake girlfriend to discourage overzealous vampire matchmaking.

So, Julian makes Thea an irresistible offer: pretend to be his lover and he’ll change her life. For one year, they’ll attend the season’s social events together in exchange for his protection and a way out of her mother’s crippling medical debt.

She can’t say no. But the vampire world is impossibly decadent and darker than Thea ever imagined, and Julian’s filthy rich vampire family wants her out of the way. But with each moment they share, new dangers emerge: a desire as forbidden as their stolen touches, an awakening of a long-dead heart, and secrets that could tear them both apart.

MY THOUGHTS: Filthy Rich Vampire was pretty much the perfect blend of billionaire romance and paranormal romance, and I absolutely enjoyed this one from start to finish. While the ending did devastate me a bit, I knew going in that this was part of a series so I was expecting things to be a little messy towards the end.

One of the first things that struck me about the vampiric world that Geneva Lee has created is how her vampires are not like other vampires. Yes, they subsist on the usual. Yes, they're all unnaturally gorgeous. Yes, they're supernatural. But Lee's vampires carve out their own niche when it comes to vampire lore. Things like hiding from the sun are a thing of the past, opening up a whole new world for Julian and Thea to explore together. Vampire romance purists might disagree, but I absolutely loved the different rules that Lee's vampires had to play by.

There were a lot of tropes from billionaire romance, paranornal romance, and royal romance at play here, and Lee did a fantastic job at blending them altogether. Forced marriage and forbidden romance are always so good together, and Julian and Thea had an enviable, jet-setting romance during this book.

Lee's writing and storytelling just hit right for me, and I found myself returning to the Rousseaux's world every minute I could spare. I loved our introduction to Thea, Julian, and Julian's family. His world is completely different from anything Thea has known, and the character development throughout demonstrates that. The entire book was entertaining to read, and the ending will definitely leave you clamoring for the second book.
