[Review] Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne

PUBLISHER'S SYNOPSIS:
For a hopeful and hopeless romantic, it’s love at first sight—with a little twist—in a hilarious short story about finding Mr. Right by the USA Today bestselling author of The Hating Game.

Rosie Whittaker and her sister are up for some Galentine’s pampering at a day spa. Getting locked inside a flotation tank is so Rosie. Enter a firefighter hero determined to pry this luckless pearl out of her high-tech shell. All Rosie has to go on is a dreamy voice and a flirty sense of humor. Remain calm, Rosie. This could be what you’ve been waiting for. Is this the man she’s waited for her whole life?

MY THOUGHTS: This was another short and sweet addition to the Improbable Meet-Cute collection, complete with the cutest of endings - even if there wasn't a lot of action throughout the plot.

Rosie is having a rough Galentine's Day. While a trip to the spa sounded nice, getting stuck in complete darkness in a relaxation tank is pretty much the opposite of relaxing. Luckily, Rosie has Leo, a firefighter who is more than relieved to be seen (or at least heard) for more than just his good looks. I really enjoyed the meet-cute between these two. Rosie and Leo barely had any time face to face, but I loved that they started falling for each other before they ever saw the other person. I felt like I knew Leo more as a character because there was no focus on what he looked like for most of the novella.

This was a quick, cute read featuring two people who were just looking for the right person to come along and finally see them for who they are inside. I loved how Thorne crafted their meet-cute around their unique situation. Rosie was super relatable, and it's rare to find a guy that readers can fall for when he doesn't do anything but talk, but Thorne managed to create that main character in Leo.

There's not a lot of action in this novella, but it didn't detract from the enjoyment of the story. Leo and Rosie were perfect on page, and this story was the perfect length to give them the meet-cute and happy ending they both deserved.
